Tia Hedenland's thoughts:

This was my first year running the Harry Bjorklund Half Marathon. As a Minnesotan, Grandma’s Marathon weekend is a pretty big deal and the only thing I am disappointed about...is not taking part in the festivities and running the Half sooner!

The expo and packet pick-up were as expected. Offered a variety of vendors and the size of the expo fit the size of the race. They do have an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner the night before the race.(paid meal)

Because of the fog, Lake Superior was not completely visible during the race. But the rain held off, so I have no complaints about the fog! (It was supposed to downpour but ended up not raining at all) On a day without fog the view would be pretty amazing running alongside of the lake.

The course was exactly what everyone had said it would be. A pretty easy elevation, fan filled packed 13.1 miles! The aid stations were great, and they even offered fresh fruit at two different stops, ice, sponges and gels/bloks at others. Many spectators also had tables set up along the course and had candy, gatorade, water, grapes, etc. Sooo many people cheering you on ready to keep you fueled!

Finisher shirt was great quality. And the medal was very nice!

Because its such a big race and people traveling in from all over. PLAN EXTRA TIME WHEN TRAVELING ANYWHERE DOWNTOWN DULUTH THAT WEEKEND. Trying to pack that many people into that small of a city...it becomes congested quite easily and will take much longer to get around and find parking.

I didnt stay after the race for too long as I needed to get back home but between the food, bands, beer and camaraderie at Canal Park after the race, its worth the trip to see what this weekend is all about and enjoy and celebrate all the runners!!
