This was a great race for me! I went down on Friday, and the race hotel let us check in 4 hours early, so that we could park and put our bags away. Speaking of the hotel, it also had a noon check out, so I was able to take a shower before we left town on Saturday.
Friday, we headed to the expo that had tons of great vendors, including a vendor that made custom finishers shirts. It was a nice touch, if you wanted something extra to remember the weekend by. At packet pick up, they issued numbers as they went, so I was able to pick up my friends packet and mine in under 5 minutes.
Saturday morning, we got up early and headed down. The race hotel was about a block from the start and was so convenient. They had tons of bathrooms and the race got started in a timely manner.
The crowd at this race is amazing, tons of cheering, and community involvement. They also had great aid stations, and many of them. The course was well marked and you knew which direction to head for your distance. I was thrilled at one of the last 13.1 aid stations, they had gummy bears and all the way to the end were volunteers with candy.
The hills! I don't ever look at elevation maps because it sycs me out. There were some monster hills but it had an amazing downhill finish, which helped me. I came away with a half marathon PR!
The party at the finish line was awesome, you could make a tie dye shirt with Aftershokz, drink a beer, eat some BBQ and listen to great music.
I would 100% suggest this race to anyone looking for a fun and challenging street race.
