Sara Betancurt's thoughts:

2018 was the second time I ran the Flying Pig Half Marathon. My boyfriend was running the full so we drove from DC to Cincinnati detouring a bit along the way to Athens, OH to try Jackie O's and Little Fish breweries....I recommend checking both out.

We stayed on the KY side of the river right by one of the many pedestrian bridges that gave us easy access to the race start/finish. We arrived in Cincinnati about an hour before packet pick up ended then headed to our hotel to relax and get ready for the race. The race itself was great just as it had been the year before. The weather both years I ran was a little chilly buy not too cold I ran in shorts and a long sleeve shirt. The race starts by the Bengals Stadium then you make your way around Cincinnati crossing multiple bridges and taking in great views especially after a long climb around mile 7. For the half distance the later miles in the race are down hill and fast. The race course has many spectators throughout so you have the sound of cheers and cowbells to push you along. Plenty of aid stations to stop for water and some for nutrition. Good amount of porta johns if nature calls. The medal is always super cute and this year there was a real pig at the finish!

A friend of mine is running the full this year and asked if I wanted to come with....sadly I already have plans pretty much every weekend in May so I had to decline but if she would've asked sooner I would totally go back and run the full now that I have a 50 states 50 marathons goal.

Also I highly recommend catching a baseball game and checking out all the cool little restaurants on the KY side of the river. There are also a few decent breweries on both sides of the river.
