I entered the half marathon in this event, a full marathon isn’t something I have committed to ..... yet!! The half didn’t start until 8, so I enjoyed the sleep in for this event. It is an out and back event that starts outside of Adelaide Oval, and then into the CBD before running by the Golf Course and through North Adelaide, before coming back in and running along the River Torrens and next to Adelaide Zoo. It was pretty cool running by the zoo with all the monkeys and then the finish line for all the events is inside Adelaide Oval!!
There isn’t an expo for this event. Race pickup is at the SA Road Runners office, where you collect your race bib - which is self serve so remember to bring your race bib!! There isn’t any extras for your entry money with this race. I’m not from Adelaide and I travelled for this event, so I needed to catch a taxi to the office to collect my bib.
There looked like there were a few road closures around the race precinct, I stayed nearby so i'm not sure of the transport arrangements. I stayed at a hotel (Mercure Grosvenor) that was opposite Adelaide Railway Station, we walked through the station across the foot bridge to the Adelaide Oval, which was a five minute walk. It was a great place to look at staying if you are traveling to Adelaide for this run, it's close to the race precinct and some yummy restaurants for a post event reward.
There are plenty of drink stations along the way with water and electrolytes and some really nice volunteers with snakes! The atmosphere and support for this event is great, lots of people come out of their houses to cheer you along which helps the sore legs!!
When you cross the finish line inside the oval there is a volunteer waiting with your bling!! Also behind the finish line is some water, electrolytes, apples and bananas for some important refueling!!
