Grandma's Marathon is one of those iconic races where the entire city shuts down to celebrate the tradition of this race weekend. This was my first marathon so I was in awe of the entire experience. Lodging is really difficult since this race attracts so many repeat runners from all over (and they make their reservations for the following year as soon as they cross the finish line!), so we slept in the dorms on campus - not recommended! It was an extremely hot day - the black flags were flying as people were passing out due to the heat. It was 70 degrees at the start of the race with 100% humidity, so you are drenched the entire run. The race spectators are awesome - tons of people cheering, lots of dance squads and bands, and plenty to see. Running along Superior was such a gorgeous sight. Given that this was a bit of a logistical nightmare, it's pretty expensive and can be very hot, I don't think I'd do this race again, but it was an awesome experience and worth trying, especially if you're looking for a summer race in the Midwest.
