This race is perfect for marathon training season. If you train with CARA, you'll be able to register for free. If you trained alone all summer, this race is perfect for getting an exciting 20 miler in.

The course runs from Montrose Beach all the way to the end of the lake path. The race hosts a bus that will drive you back north afterward. There is not much public transportation down there, so I'd highly suggest signing up for the shuttle or asking someone to pick you up.

I would also suggest studying the lake path a bit before the race. It helped me a lot to break up the path into chunks... Just make it to belmont Harbor... just make it to the field museum... etc.

The best part about this race is you have to finish to get your shirts. Motivation! It is also un-timed, so make sure to bring a watch.

This race was a great first marathon to do. The course is not overly challenging, and there was great support. The part of LSD I ran was not very exciting, but there's rock bands, high school marching bands, and cheerleaders, all along the course. I loved the long sleeve shirt ( see attached picture). This race got me to love the entire race experience. I had trained through the summer, and this race definitely makes an experience and celebration out of it. The medal was awesome and the post race party was huge. This race, is located in Hyde Park and difficult to get to, if you don't have a car.

I would most definitely recommend doing this race for you're first half marathon.

This race is a lot of fun. it's a good mix of walkers and runners, but it's organized enough that neither is getting in your way. It's all Grateful Dead themed - the shirts were tie dye, a Grateful Dead cover band played the post race party, and they handed out magic hat beer - Delish!

It's a good 5k for a thursday night, and the post race party is a lot of fun. I'd suggest getting a group of friends to do this race with. The course is ok. A lot of it runs under Mccormick Place where garmins lose their signal, and it can be pretty humid in August.

Otherwise, it's a lot of fun!
