This was the second year for this race here. I did not run the first one so I can not say if it was any better or worse than last year. Race pick up at the expo was alright no issues there. The expo itself was not that big a deal. A few local venders and some ok free stuff to pick up. Race t-shirt was a nice tech tee. Just race logo. At least it was not black.
The race itself was fine there is a 5k,10k and half going on at the same time there were lots of water and aid workers along the corse. The start is a little wired. Starts on a bridge. The race is to celebrate Texas Independence so it started by men in period attire firing guns. Kinda cool.
Here is where I find the race lacked. The course scenery. Awful. We never left down town. We never went near the Alamo itself (this i don't get) or any other area's that are San Antonio. We went through some of the run down areas. We did go by Fort Sam but other than that nothing. If were a visitor (and there were runners from 20 states they said) I would not have a favorable view of San Antonio. I don't know if it was a issue with the city or what but they need to at least go by the Alamo since its celebrating the battle that happened there. Best part is the finish because you finish in the Alamo Dome. That is cool. Jumbo Tron music and all.
All in all it was a good race. I ran a PR so that was good. Have not decided if I will do it next year. We will see.
