For a first year race, could it get better? Sure. But if it didn’t- that’s ok too. This race has so much potential to be one of the best in the area.

It was an absolutely beautiful course, and very well marked. The volunteer coverage was also great. With an 8am start time in May, it got hot towards the end.

There was paid beer at the finish line, but free Kona Ice (sponsored by someone, so hopefully that continues).

Overall a lovely experience. I signed up for the 15k because of peer pressure from some running friends, and was very glad I did. I could have opted for the 5k but wanted the classic experience. It’s an absolutely beautiful course, as can be expected on Sullivan’s Island, with the occasional oak tree giving shade. It’s super flat, which is generally expected in the area. But it made it extra enjoyable for the slightly longer distance for people used to 5/10k races.

Instead of a shirt, we got a lightweight hoodie which is such a nice change. Packet pickup was at Fleet Feet which is actually awesome because I could pick up some race fuel, since I never plan ahead for that. We definitely got to the race early for parking. There’s no designated spot, so you have to hope you find something.

There was so much good stuff at the start/finish line. Coffee and hot cocoa in the morning. Then local beer at the finish line. Plus photo ops. And easy access bathrooms (hooray for real bathrooms!) It was really great energy overall. The community vibe is worth everything.
