Unfortunately the 2021 edition of the Dallas Hot Chocolate race went virtual. They are always on top of it when it comes to the swag and this year was no different. Loved the sweater, nuun, honey stinger, and chocolate. The medal is a winner as well. Hopefully next year we can all do it together in person.

This was a race that was postponed during covid. It was originally to be run in Irving, Texas but it was moved to McKinney north of Dallas. Overall the race coordinators did an excellent job or putting on a safe and fun race. Packet pickup was done off-site day before to minimize crowding. The races were started in waves to minimize the size of the starting groups. Awards were mailed out after the fact as well. Despite the limitations, the race was great and the experience was so much fun.

I applied to Chicago as my first major and got lucky to do it on my first try.
There was nothing I disliked about the race. The expo was top notch. What made the whole weekend amazing was the volunteers. I’ve never been in a race with such passionate volunteers.
The course was great. The later miles messed with my head because the lack of crowd support.
The race was flat and the spectators made for a truly memorable day.

This was my second time doing the Dallas marathon. I wasn’t sure about doing it since the first time the scenery was rather dull at parts and I hit the wall hard.
I saw that the race would actually circle the lake so I decided to sign up. There are some hills that give a small challenge. I loved the added loop of the lake and the weather was perfect.
The convention was very efficient and well run.
The big negative was that since the addition of BMW as the sponsor, it feels very corporate and less local flavor. I’d recommend for someone that hasn’t run it or has gone years without running it. But personally this race isn’t one I would do every year.

I went to Baylor and never considered doing this race until a few years after graduating. I trained hard knowing there would be hills but nothing prepared me for the brutal Cameron Park. The scenery is beautiful and makes the hard run worth it. Most of the race is along the Brazos and Cameron Park. Overall a great race since they have been doing it for so many years. Medal was great.
Nothing in the way or a convention or anything but very well run and fun race.
