I hate running outside in the winter. If I do, I'm likely the one you'll see at 40 degrees or below wearing a down jacket and balaclava. So, when the Chicago Area Runners Association created an INDOOR race in dead of winter, I thought it was pure brilliance. Plus, the cost of registration includes entry to the Chicago Auto Show.

While I do think there are a couple of tweaks that could be made, I thought the overall execution of the race was well done -- especially considering that this is in its first year. It was easy to pick up my bib and shirt before the race, and though parking in Lot A was expensive, it was convenient to access McCormick Place -- and be able to leave my coat in the car.

I loved the part of the course that takes you through the show floor, and I'd love to see that be the longer part of the 2.4-mile loop. I understand the need to run into the Lakeside Center, but would love to see more displays, decoration or cheer stations here.

I also really appreciated that the race wasn't super crowded. Lines for medals, gear check and goody bags were small.

I'm absolutely doing this again, and next year I'm putting together a team. I ran the race solo this year, and think it would be a lot more fun with friends, making a day of the entire experience.
