All the staff/volunteers were great, just heavily disappointed in the course.I was hoping to set a PR on this race, which should have been super easy. The race was described as having “gently rolling hills.” I grew up in a hilly area of Kentucky and expected this to be no problem, however the course was nothing but giant hills with little downhill recovery afterwards. The roads were also in boarder line poor shape. The course map showed water every mile, but it was really closer to every 2 miles. There just really wasn’t a whole lot of course support. The swag was amazing. Giant medal, nice shirt, and a wine sample in a commemorative wine glass. Parking was conveniently located but it was in a grassy area that was quite wet and muddy from the night before. I might consider the 5K in a future year, but wouldn’t go out of my way for it, and definitely wouldn’t do the half again.

This was the first year of the Hoptown Half and I chose to run it with my mom since I grew up in the area. The race was put together nicely for a new race. They arranged cheer squads along the course which made the distance feel less lonely. There were water stops at every mile and they coordinated well with the city to ensure that the roads on the course were closed to traffic (which I’m sure sucked for anyone trying to drive anywhere that morning). The medals and shirts were nice, but the shirt is polyester. A tech shirt would have been better.

This was my first RunDisney event and I’ll keep coming back for more! It was so much fun that the 3 miles seemed more like 1. I could have just kept running. The course runs through EPCOT, so I got to watch the sun rise over world showcase. There were about 5 character stops including some rare characters. There is only one water stop, but that is plenty for a 5K. The medal was large for a 5K medal and was beautifully designed. The shirts this year were unisex, stiff cotton, and short sleeve, but they are supposed to be moving to tech shirts starting with the 2019 Wine and Dine weekend.

I’m officially hooked and am training for the Dopey Challenge during 2020. This is the race that made me a runner. The course runs through EPCOT and Magic Kingdom with tons of character stops. Even when you’re running on Florida highway, Disney keeps plenty of entertainment lined up. There were several water and aid stations and one fuel station with sports beans. Disney keeps photographers on the course to capture all the important moments. Nobody does running like Disney.
