This race was terrible! It all started the morning of the race. We arrived at the parking area about 40 minutes before race start. We had a large group so it took about 10 minutes to get us all together for race morning photos and such. 30 minutes before race start we all headed over to the bathrooms. There were ZERO porta potties at the race start. They were depending on the little 2 stall public beach bathroom to accommodate all 500+ athletes. Needless to say the line was so long that I had to start the race without going. When I questioned an individual wearing an Elite racing shirt about the lack of bathrooms they pointed out that there are many bathrooms along the course. WHAT?! I’m racing, not going for a leisurely jog! I don’t want to stop for a bathroom unless it’s an emergency! The race began and was fine in the beginning. Then the boiling hot Florida sun came up. During the last 4 miles of the race there was no shade and only one water station. They only had their cups of warm water about 1/4 full and when I asked for a second they looked at me like I was greedy. I was suffering from some pretty serious heat issues at that point and definitely needed the water. Even though my bladder was still screaming at me. As soon as I crossed the finish line I grabbed my medal and continued running to find a restroom. Wouldn’t you know I had to go back to that same 2 stall bathroom with a freaking line!! After finally relieving my very angry bladder I made my way back to the finish “party”. I finished in the top 1/3 of participants but the place was already starting to look pretty picked over. I grabbed one of the last 10 cold Pepsi’s and had to wait in line for some warm water. There was a few snack items like 1/4 bananas, rice crispy treats, cheezits, that might have been it. I think at a different time of year with a different management company this could be a good race. The course was fairly scenic.
