I've run both the full marathon (2016) and the half (2015), and I'm a huge fan of the overall event. It's the only event I've come back to twice and I would definitely consider redoing the half marathon, as it's where I hold my current PR (1:44:03). The full marathon was not as exciting, given the partially out and back course, but it was still a good race.

Here's what I thought:

Expo - the expo had so many free food samples (really the only reason I love expos lol). Vendors were so generous in giving samples--I saw some granola bar companies giving out handfuls of bars per person and drink companies giving out several bottles per person.

Course - the course definitely has some inclines, but they're doable. I didn't train specifically for hills in 2015 and still managed. There are spectators along most stretches, which is super motivating. Most of the race is through residential Hartford, which isn't the most interesting in the world, but isn't bad either. I especially liked going through Elizabeth Park, which was lovely.

Weather - wouldn't normally mention this, but I've been told that the weather is almost always perfect for this race. Not too hot, and not too cold, and just the right amount of sunny.

Fuel - I don't remember this too much, but I felt that fuel was sufficient. Gu was available at some stations, and they had volunteers biking with gu on the marathon course.

Swag - the medal is always one of the coolest, and the shirt also usually has a great design (and is green, whether you like that or not).

Deferral Policy - I really appreciate how you can defer your entry for any reason up to 14 days before the race. You do lose some money, but get a decent chunk of credit for a future event. I had to do this in 2014 when I ended up getting injured.

Overall, this is one of my favorite events. The energy is great, course is solid, and swag is eye-catching. I would highly recommend and think this should be up there with some of the more "major" events.
