This is such a great local trail race. Perfect for dipping your toe on the trail if you're interested in starting trails. The shirts were amazing as well as the medals! DC Timing did an excellent job. The also provided local donuts and coffee for afterwards! A portion of the proceeds went to the Forecastle foundation who's mission is to protect and connect the world’s natural awesome by funding projects that help protect the world’s natural resources with a focus on biodiversity hotspots.

I loved this race, the atmosphere, the swag and the camping! I decided to run this as my first half trail marathon. It was the best decision.
We came up on the day before set up our camp site. We hung around met our camp neighbors and then ended up going to bed early for the race the next day.
Next day was race day! Weather was beautiful and perfect. The elevation is pretty easy going with some nice bunny hills. The race started out on gravel for about 4 miles, I believe. I was happy to see dirt! The course was beautiful and full of fun, encouraging trail runners. A few spots I was solo but for the most part there was always someone around.

Once I crossed the finish line I showered and then settled in the finish area to cheer on the other runners. Its was great to be able to watch the ultra runners coming in for a brief minute to only head back out. Or for some to come running in to the finish line!

This is a great beginner trail half!

This is a great race for a local 5k on Thanksgiving Day.
The parking was a little hectic as its in a small area, but its fine when you show up early enough. The race cause is a little crowded but the local police do a great job in closing the roads.

My kids loved the Turkey Trot and the medal they received for running the dash. All the kids had great big smiles on their face.

The YMCA also offers child care for your children even if you're not a member. The only downfall about that is, they don't do their normal check ins with the kids and your member ID. Thats fine, when you drop your child off, but it was pretty easy to pick your child up. I felt like anyone could come and pick up your child. They don't ask for ID when you pick up to confirm that's you're child. I had a toddler to pick up so luckily it was a little less hectic than if I had brought my 7 year old.
