This was a really tough race for me but it's one that my mind keeps coming back to and I'd love the opportunity to run again.

Course: I had lived in DC previously and found the course to be a little strange. While you get the big landmarks checked off, you spend a lot of time on county highway, and you don't see very much of DC when it comes to the neighborhoods. The finish line is painful but the best.

Lodging: Had the good fortune to stay at a friend's apartment on the Red Line.

Food / Drink: Bourbon after the race for brunch. Rude awakening for this group of Minnesotans when we asked for a beer chaser and ended up paying $8 for a full PBR.

Gear: One of the traditions of this race is that you get a mock turtleneck for your race shirt - while it's not a shirt I would traditionally want but it's one that I'm incredibly proud of. Also, the medal is so cool. I love it!

Other Notes: The logistics for this race are a little challenging. The expo was near RFK which you need to take a shuttle to get out to it. There was a long security line and they had been having power issues throughout the day which slowed things down. Also getting down to the Pentagon at the start and then back downtown from the Marine Corps Memorial is challenging.

Overall: It's just an awesome experience. The aid stations are staffed by Marines and even when you're feeling (and I'm certain looking) your worst they are so supportive. In that vein, the finish line is that notion on steroids but I think it's better to be a little surprised about the details there.
