This was my 19th marathon and the worst of all. The expense of everything, spectators had to pay the Biltmore Estate fee just to get in to watch the race, even the spouses and families of the runners. Also, my wife and I are vegan, and at the end of the race she had to stand near the pens of animals being raised for slaughter. Finally, as I crossed the finish line, the announcer couldn't pronounce my Greek name, and after trying for about ten seconds, he didn't bother trying and just dropped it. Not worth the expense. This isn't an Asheville marathon, this is Blitmore Estate marathon, and it is not worth it. I have run Athens many times, Messini, Nafplio, Prague, Thessaloniki, Knoxville, Raleigh (NC), an ultra in Alepohori. This one just left a bad taste in my mouth.
