I loved this race. The on-course bands where great. Taiko drummers as we went through Balboa Park really kept me going as we neared the end of the race, and ending down by Petco was a lot of fun.

Getting to the start was a little crazy. We took the trolley, and it took forever. We were waiting for a long time. So plan ahead and leave a lot of extra time!

The best part of the RnR races is the on-course bands, right? Well, there aren’t many on this course because of city regulations. So while this is a nice course, there are very few bands and basically no one cheering along the course. Too bad, because it’s a great time of year for a run. So just don’t expect all the liveliness of a RnR race.

This is an un-timed 4 mile run in Central Park at the stroke of midnight on January 1st.

My advice is to show up right before the race starts. Forget the music and other festivities before the actual run because it's probably going to be REALLY cold. The pros run into the park, run the 4 miles, and run to the bar!
