I just ran this week yesterday and am already excited to run next year. This was a fantastic half marathon! Here's what I loved:
1) Fantastic course, mostly through the more rural residential areas of Napa. The course took runners through parts of Napa that most tourists don't see, and it's stunning. The rolling hills kept the running interesting.
2) Aid stations with plenty of water every 2 miles.
3) Big enough that I was never running alone, but not too big. The course was not crowded at all.
4) They had pacers for every 5 minutes- at least in the 1:45-2 hour range. Surprising for a smallish race.
5) Easy start/finish with parking and a great location!

And nothing's perfect right? So here's what I didn't like:
1) The shirt is going right to GoodWill. I don't need another cotton blend t-shirt. Particularly for a womens race, I wish we had been given the choice of a technical tank or technical long sleeve, or maybe a hat/visor.

"First Half without the bridge? Big upgrade!"

I’ve run the first half (2016) second half (2015) and full (2017)... 2018 was the year that the first half did not start with the full and it did not go across the Golden Gate Bridge. What an upgrade! Less crowded and the bridge kind of sucks- it’s cold, foggy, wet, and crowded.

Finishing uphill through the park was definitely brutal, so if the course stays like this, watch out and save energy for those last two miles!

A true San Francisco classic, and if you’re a serious runner, don’t worry- there’s plenty of space for you at the beginning of the race!

Access for this race is fantastic because BART actually operates on special hours to support this race. LOVE IT!

The course is great because you cut all the way across the city. In 2018, they added an optional 3k at the end... which was nice from a distance perspective, but a little monotonous because it was just an out and back in Ocean Beach.

"Best way to start Super Bowl Sunday!"

This is my favorite way to kick off Super Bowl Sunday. I live in San Francisco, and my very familiar with the course. For what it’s worth, the course is a route you can basically run any day of the week, so you don’t need to run this race to have access to the route.

It’s a relatively flat course, although the finish is just uphill enough that you want to punch someone in the face. Especially after running the out and back along Ocean Beach, which is pretty monotonous.

Would I travel for this race? No. It’s not that special. But it’s a fun race that is “flat” by San Francisco standards.
