This is a fairly small marathon race in rural Minnesota, about 1.5 hours northwest of downtown Minneapolis.

This race is an excellent target for a Boston Qualifier. It boasts the largest % of its entrants qualifying for Boston, of any marathon in the US.

The course is very flat, with only one turn on the course. Much of the first part of the race is shady, covered with trees.

There aren't many frills to the race at the water stops, post race, etc and no expo. But this course and the time of year allowed me to time qualify for Boston and NYC marathons on same day.

Entry into this race is limited but there are still a few entries available for 2018 (on 4/2/2018. Race date is mid-May.

I have created a running website named www.askrunguy.com based on having run over 100 half marathons, including all fifty US states and several other countries; and several full marathons, with a goal of running all six World Major marathons. Below is a template for comments for my rating each race:

Race: Wobegon Marathon 2017
Race Type / Terrain (road, trail): “trail” – but really is on asphalt paved bike trail
Organization (Size, Expo, volunteers, start / finish): Excellent. Can start by warming up in high school gym. Limited entry due to narrow course. Good BQ race.
Support (fans, music on course): Fan support on the course is pretty good. Able to view runners at several locations via driving. Little music on course
Course Scenery: Nice scenery in little rural towns winding around rural Minnesota
Course Difficulty: point to point, fairly flat and easy. Tree cover early, lots of sun late
Weather / Temperature: in 2017 weather was fairly good. About 60 degrees F at start, reaching mid-70s by the end.
Course location recreation (sights, things to do): There isn’t really anything to do right around this race. Twin Cities are about an hour away.
Logistics (Getting to the race site): about an hour northwest of Minneapolis, / St. Paul
Swag (medal, t-shirt, other items for finishers): Finisher jackets were nice.
Food and drink (on course and after finish): Food and drink on course is fine, and food after the course was plentiful with a lot of variety.

I provide running and racing resources for all levels of runners at www.askrunguy.com. I also share information that I believe is interesting and helpful to the running community. I encourage you to visit www.askrunguy.com
