The 5k was the only race of the day, and it started at Pier A Park.

I chose the event because it was close to home and it wasn’t terribly cold yet in NJ. It was a “warm” 48 degrees! We Ubered to the event, so parking wasn’t a factor.

The course was mostly flat. The initial report was that more than 1,000 runners registered, but a little over 500 runners were in the final results.

The race was well-organized. The bib and Santa outfit pick up was the day before at Fleet Feet/Jack Rabbit in Hoboken. It was easy and seamless. A souvenir t-shirt was included.

It was a good atmosphere and energy. I enjoyed seeing the runners in the Santa outfits and other Christmas-themed costumes. I would recommend it.

There was no medal or goodie bag at the end of the race. But, there was a finisher backdrop with Santa on a motorcycle. The expo had various vendors.

The post-race beverages were hot chocolate and energy drinks. I do wish there was a stand with Gatorade or water.

The expo was pretty small, but it was quick to check in and pick up our bibs/swag.

I stayed in one of the race hotels, so getting to the race was easy in the morning (just a few blocks). The course itself wasn't too difficult (even for a novice runner like me), and I enjoyed running through the neighborhoods of Columbus.

The post-race party was a nice touch -- champagne for each runner, as well as pizza from Papa John's! Again, it was great to just walk a block back to the race hotel on these tired legs.

Parking for both the expo and the race were very easy and convenient (very close to the start line). The shuttle from the finish line to the "start" left us sort of far from the actual start line (at least it felt that way after running 13.1).

The expo was nice, with massages and compression devices available with short wait times. The overall energy was high and the photo opps (background posters) were nice as well, with helpful staff.

The race was fun and well-supported. It was also very well-organized. There were a lot of turns but it kept boredom from setting in, and I had never toured Rutgers' campus before so it was an interesting run.

They gave us our medals (and space blankets) as we crossed the finish line which was a nice touch. But, the food at the end was a good walk from the finish without anyone to instruct us where to go. The goody bag had a banana and a pretzel inside. Maybe it was the cold weather, but the pretzel was pretty hard, but at that point, I'm not sure it mattered much.

I would definitely recommend this race!

It was a nice turnout with a Zumba warm up before the Half marathon and again before the 10K. The half started at 8am, the 10K at 8:30am and the 5K at 8:45am. Packet pickup was well-organized. I opted for priority pick-up, where they mailed me my bib ahead of time. The only thing I had to pick up on race day was the Dri-Fit tech jacket (which was nice!).

The starting line and finish line were at the same place for all 3 races. The course had a few minor inclines, which were manageable. During one section, we had to avoid a few splatterings of large poop along the trail, otherwise, it was OK. The turnarounds for the 5K and 10K felt a little strange, but there was someone standing at the 10K turnaround which helped.

In general, there weren't a lot of people telling us where to go at the turns and not a lot cheering us on. One of the race volunteers mentioned that it would be hard for spectators to cheer us on because we ran most of the race inside of the Historic Preservation.

I would run this race again. I'm considering the half marathon next time!

Due to traveling, I had my packet mailed to me ahead of time, so I missed the Expo. On race day, finding the corrals was a bit confusing. But, the race itself ran smoothly (I did the 5K). LOTS of runners, a bit crowded. Definitely chilly! There were a few walkers in wave 1 that you had to weave around, but it was manageable. Only a couple of slight inclines on this course. I also used the real-time tracking alert and my results were sent via text as soon as I crossed the finish line! (although the Facebook option didn't work). The band was fun, and the finisher's mugs were yummy! I would definitely recommend this race.
