I traveled from NJ to do this race and planned my entire family vacation for these dates. I love kauai and wanted to see Oahu again, so what better time than during a marathon.
Most people would not go away to run, unless you are a runner, so alot of mt friends did not understand this.
The expo was fairly easy to access. I did not stay in Honolulu so i had to drive in and pay the $10 convention center parking fee. The expo was packed with new vendors and familiar ones. Lots of picture taking opportunities and a ton of HM merchandise from teddy bears, to towels, bags, and shirts.
race morning i had my husband drop me off as close as possible to Ala Moana park at around 330am. I easily found my way to start line and lots of times to relax, warm up, fuel and use the potties. All potties were marked male/female. I have never seen this at a race, but WOW it helped alot.
The start was on time and filled with fireworks in the sky. The course was beautiful and everything you would expect in Hawaii. There were aid stations every 2 miles and a ton of support and spectators.
The finish line in the park was huge. More merchandise, more photos, water food. It was easy access for mt husband to come meet me at the finish.
The medal is gorgeous, it weighs a ton and the shirt was good but you cant collect it until you finish, and i almost forgot mine. I wish they would have had an exchange shirt section for sizes.
I would def rec. this race again!
