We were up at 3a and out the door at 4a headed to Santa Rosa Beach. What normally would take about 1.5 hrs only took 1 hr on a Sunday morning!! But we were able to for go the shuttle from the local elementary school and park about 50 yards from the start/finish line!!

Perks for arriving really early to a race...choice of close parking spots, no lines at the porta potties, and it was quiet enough to catch 30 minutes of additional sleep!!

We headed to the start about 640a for a 7a start. The start was on time and we were in for an out and back. If you have ever ran the Seaside Half Marathon in the Spring, this one starts at the turnaround for Seaside. I hadn't ran Seaside since 2014 and forgot about the hills!! Yes, there are hills at the beach!! Actually, the first 3 miles and the last 3 miles were hills!!

The route took us into a neighborhood in Watercolor to loop us back out on 30A at mile 7. Now it was basically a straight shot back to the finish.

We enjoyed the beverages provided at the finish, but there were only bananas and granola bars for food choices.

We enjoyed this race, but mainly due to being familiar with the course. The only support/cheering on the route were the water stations. This was a closed road race, there were a few views of the inlets leading to the Gulf of Mexico, but the view was mainly residential areas along 30A.

This race took place on Labor Day, 5 September 2016 and is located about 1.5 hours north of Birmingham, AL. We registered this race on a whim, FB special for $10, others were able to register for $1 and $5!! We did not attend the expo due to travel time and picked our bibs up morning of the race. There were no t-shirts available in order to keep race cost down.
The course was through a community that had lake access, a campground and lots of HILLS!! Sooooo...heat, humidity and hills!!

There were finisher plates given that were designed by a local artist. Pizza was the food at the finish and the community had donated numerous items for raffle.

Two Thumbs Up!!

We found out about the Magnolia Meltdown at the expo for The Mississippi Blues Half Marathon back in January. We decided after running The Blues that we wouldn't mind coming back to Mississippi for another run!!

We arrived close to 630p on Friday and headed right to packet pick-up. There were a few people/vendors left, but for the most part everyone was packed up and headed home!!

The only thing I DIDN'T like about this run was the first 1.5 miles or so!! We started in the parking lot of the Renaissance of Colony Park and took us out to a walking/bike trail that was extremely narrow. We were advised at the start that this was not a closed course and to stay on the trail!! Bummer!! It was tight for a while, then everyone started finding there pace/place.

The weather was overcast with low humidity, which made for a perfect running temp. There were several areas of the course that were shaded, wound through neighborhoods and a shopping area, if I remember correctly there was a hill around mile 4.

We ate the pizza and cookies and drank the water and soda at the after party, but then we were off to Starbucks for a post run cawfee.!!

We enjoyed this run and area so much the we plan to run it again!!
