This is hands-down my favorite 5K in Chicago. I've participated multiple times. I will disclose that because it's in my neighborhood, I can literally walk to the start line and then walk home when I'm done, so that makes it personally easier to run it. But I have run other 5Ks in the Chicago area and none have the warmth and hospitality of this one.
The start line is literally blocks from both a Metra and an eL station. It's way better to take public transportation vs. driving there, since most of the streets in the area are cleared anyway for the race. You start and end near All Saints Church, which runs the food pantry that receives funds from the 5K. You'll literally see the community that benefits from your participation in the race.
The course itself is flat, this being Chicago. You are running through Ravenswood and Lincoln Square neighborhood streets, so spectators are residents having their morning coffee on their porch and cheering for you as you run by. There are stroller runners and lots of kids, but the streets are wide enough that it doesn't get too crowded.
Finish line is well organized and there are lots of great vendors and food options. Organization is top notch. The race shirt quality varies each year, and are just OK, IMO. It's not a race to do for the free swag. The pay off is feeling part of the welcoming Ravenswood community.
