I know the race organizers had no control over the weather - the course was covered in ice due to a strange April snow shower and temps were about 25 degrees at the race start - but it appeared they made no attempt to improve course conditions through salt, shoveling or some other means. I would say at least 60 percent of the course was covered in ice, forcing runners to the muddy grass for large portions of the race. I spent all my mental energy in the race trying not to fall down and break something, and while I was successful, I saw several spills throughout the race. To make things worse, I did not see any race personnel patrolling the course, so I knew if I did fall and hurt something, I would be depending on the kindness of another runner to abandon their race and help me get medical attention.

The start line was also a mess. Five minutes before the scheduled start, the DJ at the starting line started yelling about which colored bibs were supposed to be in which corral, but he kept changing what he was saying and screaming meaningless shout-outs in the meantime.

The course itself was nice and not too boring, but the stretch (about miles 9-12) right along the lake was brutal because of the wind and waves crashing and creating ice.

The quarter-zip from the race was nice and the water/Gatorade stations were well-staffed and efficient.

The pluses were definitely not enough to overcome the feeling that the organizers just collected my $70 and ran without any attempt to keep me safe and give me a good experience. I will not run any more races organized by All Community Events.
