All I can say is - WOW!!!!.
First, when we signed up, my wife and were told in the race description about a beautiful race course on the island, t-shirt plus sweatshirt, food after the race, etc. Instead, received one tech t-shirt for the race, one tech t-shirt for the wedding, a medal, and no food, and a kinda miserable course.

Now for the details.

Race signup was easy. But along the way, many warning signs arose about the potential for a very disorganized event. It started with changes with the hotel that was offering discount rates for event participants (fine, we'll book a different hotel). My wife and I discovered that the Blues Festival being promoted on their website was going to take place on a different weekend than the race (no biggie, we're not into blues that much). Changes to the course description after we signed up - apparently people didn't like running on the beach last year, so they got rid of that, but no course map until just a few weeks prior to the race. My wife had emailed the race director a few weeks prior to confirm the number and location of water stops. We received an email stating that their would be two water stops on the course. The course was an out-and-back 10k, that the half-marathoners would complete twice plus a little loop to make up the difference in distance.

The packet pickup was good , and seemed to be fairly well organized. Mentally, flags went up when they gave us us returnable shoe tags (circa 2005) for chip timing the race. The young man had to pull mine from a compartment in a box that had same the number as my bib number,

The piece of paper that was handed out during the packet pickup the evening before the race explained the parking well.

Pre-race events the morning of were much as expected.

They started the half marathon as a gun start about 10 minutes early, meaning that they were only tracking the shoe tags as they cross the finish line mats.

The first out-and-back was pretty uneventful, except that it was warm. We started the race at 73 deg. F and 94% RH. There were indeed two water stops, giving us a total of four on one one leg.

We completed the first loop with my Garmion registering about 7.1 miles when we went back on the course. The first water stop still had water when we passed it the for the 3rd time. We began hearing emergency vehicle sirens. The 6th, 7th and 8th water stops were out of water. I mapped this out on MapMyRun and found that my wife and I received no water from the promised water stops during the last 5.2 miles of the race, due to the water being gone. The volunteers avoided eye contact, and seemed more interested in checking their smart phones. Very sad, since there was a Publix store only about a mile away from the second water stop.

My wife was on the verge of heat exhaustion during the last three miles of the race. I was very grateful to all of the other runners that offered assistance, but very disappointed in the race management for their poor planning and lack of concern for the safety of the participants. Trust me, if I had known that they were going to run out, I personally would have carried a ton of water for my wife.

Once we got to the finish line, there were cases of bottled water. Can you say - too little, too late? There was no food. And I mean not even a banana or a bagel like I have seen at the 50+ other running races I have competed in during the last 5 years.

Oh, and by the way, I have not received a single apology from the race director at the time of this review, 3 full days after the event. My word of warning, stay away from anything organized by Xanadu Race Management (http://www.727canrace.com/home.html).
