The Dash to the Finish 5K was the last of my 9+1 NYRR qualifying races and it totally exceeded my expectations. Taking to the streets of Manhattan on Halloween morning, this race was more about having a passion for where you're from than any type of costume-filled festivities.

Starting right in front of the United Nations, I was surrounded by fellow runners from over 100 different countries donning flags with pride. Most of them in town for the marathon the following day, their excitement was palpable! And as a local I was proud to offer them some of our city's finest sites in just a few short miles. I watched as their eyes went starry passing landmarks like Grand Central, Bryant Park, Radio City Music Hall, and more! (Do note: if people taking pictures while running truly offends you - this is not your race!) It was amazing to see my own city through the eyes of those visiting, and I became self aware of what I take for granted every day.

As I entered Central Park and met the course of the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon, I could only charge forward and think of the strength of so many that would be crossing this line after 26.2 miles the following day.

I was proud to be part of this race on such a spirited marathon weekend and even more excited to be qualified for my own marathon journey in exactly one year!

My half marathon experience was a great one filled with likeminded and dedicated runners. The crowd was competitive but friendly and lacked the normal edginess of races in the NYC area. The race was well organized and the aid stations were fully supported by the local community. It was a fun way to see Atlantic City in the morning light.
