I found the half-marathon to be an enjoyable race. The course was relatively flat, taking runners through downtown and then up north of downtown. Near Fall Creek, the half marathon split from the full marathon and headed back south toward downtown. My first complaint was that the water stations seemed disorganized. I volunteered at a water station for the Fort4Fitness half marathon in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in September. When we set up, we were told that Gatorade would be at the front and water at the back on each side of the course. For the Indy race, some water stations had Gatorade in front, some in back, some just on the righthand side of the course and some just on the lefthand side. I had no intention of taking Gatorade (too much sugar for me), so it would have been nice to know that at every water station water would be in the front or in the back. My other problem was traffic next to the course. I realize Indianapolis is a big city and it's difficult to ask residents to stay put for several hours on a Saturday morning, but much of the course had cars running next to course. The streets were wide enough that I never feared running into a car, but I did think about the air quality.

Finally, at the end there was "recovery chilli" available for the runners. All of the chilli was made with meat. In other words, vegetarians and vegans were not welcome to enjoy the recovery chilli. I found this to be a strike against the race.

Despite my criticisms, I enjoyed the race and I will definitely be returning in the future. In fact, it is the race I intend to run in 2016 as my first marathon.
