Per the Rockland Road Runners (and myself, because I have run this race the past two years and am registered again for this year) the 5 Mile Turkey Trot is a memorable running experience, drawing over 3,100 individuals and families in 2013. The race raises donations for the Marisa Fund to eradicate childhood cancer Online Registration
The course starts off flat but hits you with two steady inclines in the first half of the race. At the half way point, you circle back on the paved bike path surrounding Rockland lake for a two mile jaunt towards the finish. This is a family event where you will see lots of parents, children, and teens all getting a Thanksgiving Morning run in. This event is usually cold and you need to arrive early because they do close off the roads in to the park for safety.
Each runner gets a long sleeve tech shirt. The Logo does not change year to year, but the base color does and the number of sponsors on the back continues to grow steadily for this great fundraiser.

Rated one of the 8 best Halloween runs by Runner's World Magazine and sponsored by the Rivertown Runners, this can be a challenging race for some. The route does encompass many of the rolling hills that Washington Irving references in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The nice thing about this race is that it is accessible by Metro North Railroad for people who live in NYC and want to see what's going on in the 'burbs. Most of the races is run through residential neighborhoods, however you do get some majestic views of the Hudson River, as well as the Old Dutch Church and Philipsburg Manor, two of the areas historical sites.
One thing to keep in mind as you run this race, the finish line is at the top of a hill! No Joke! It's called the Potanico Punisher. If the 6 miles don't hurt, the 0.2 to the finish will!
Costumes are strongly encouraged. Bib pick up is at the Westchester Road Runners store in White Plains. Race T-shirt is a long sleeve cotton shirt.

This is one of my favorite summer races. The Oakley Women's Mini 10K is a women's only event which takes you up Central Park West and in to Central Park for a loop ending by Tavern on The Green. I like this race because the weather is usually nice and you can get a good turn out of friends when you pitch it as "an easy lap around the park". Little do they need to know it is a 6.2 mile lap, but I won't tell if you wont!
This is a medal earning race. Oakley medals are given to finishers. (sorry I only have a finishers picture from 2013, but they didn't change much year to year). At the finish line there are some photo opportunities, an Oakley fashion show, and a DJ. The swag for this race is a cotton tank but my friends and I seem to have issues with the sizing each year.
