I had reservations going into this race. I ran the Veterans Half in Columbia City in 2014 and was very disappointed. (This was putting on by the same company). I have to say that I was awed by the race. I've n bee been to a more organized expo, there were vendors with free organic fruit, the tee was great quality and looks pretty good too. The start was a bit wonky if you were behind the 2:25 mark you had to turn a corner to start. CANONS! There was a canon to start the race, along with Eye of the Tiger. The scenery was just soso but the spectators were great. In the neighborhoods they had their own "water stops" great cheer sections and one neighborhood was even having a block party with a bounce house for their kids. You end on the Tin Caps Baseball field which was pretty cool, with people in the stands. An awesome medal to boot!! I would strongly recommend this race to anyone!

I'm torn about recommendations for this race, I had a terrible experience but it was 40 degrees and raining the entire time. They don't close the roads so you do have to compete with traffic, some of which is heavy farm machinery as it's harvest time here in Indiana. There was a lovely deer racing through a newly harvested field that was pretty awesome. I would NOT do the full as it's just the same course twice and once is definitely plenty. Not a great swag bag, but an amazing New Balance jacket!

I ran this race without training for a PR, and was pleasantly surprised by an 11 minute one!! That being said it was a difficult course, to me. I was not prepared for hills at all and there were a couple. The leaves changing in October in Central Indiana should be enough to bring you to this course. As far as spectators go there aren't many, but that's partly because the course winds through a state park and country roads, it's so worth it though.

There is a lot to say about this race, it's iconic. If you live in the Midwest you should probably come and do this, if you like Indy Car or NASCAR you should probably come and do this one. Running around the track is pretty surreal, while at the same time amazingly long and boring. By all means kiss the bricks but Please step to the side!! The start is planned to a t, but if you're slower you are going to be waiting a while to start. They make it fun though with beach balls and music. The first 3 miles are shoulder to shoulder, and even after that you're NEVER running alone. You see some pretty diverse parts of Indianapolis that you may not normally see. It's an amazing experience and I'd recommend anyone do it at least once, but if you don't like crowds and running in a herd you may only do it once.
