This is one of my FAVORITE races. I love the trail and, for Kansas, it can be quite scenic. This particular morning happened to be foggy which added a lot to the beauty. The weather has been perfect the last 2 years here, starting quite cool and warming up along the way. The trail is not exceptionally difficult but can be a little rocky. There isn't significant elevation change but a few sections can roll. Around the middle of the 25 mi loop (with a 1.2 mi "warm up" for the marathoners) is a section that runs up and down an open field on a hill. This provides a nice break from the trail and splits the race nicely. The gem of this race though is the aid stations and people working it. They genuinely enjoy helping the racers and do an amazing job at it. By far my favorite aid stations of any race I have done. The shirts and finishing items are quality if not simple (which is also kind of the the allure, they are just cool crafted items). This was my first marathon and it has a very special place in my heart and my legs. I do very highly recommend coming out and spending a day (and maybe night) with awesome people on an awesome yet very accessible trail.
