The Phoenix PF Chang's Half Marathon was a great excuse for me to escape the harsh winter running scene and soak in some sunshine. Running through snowy Midwest Winters is always a challenge for me, but I find it much easier when I have a great race to train and look forward to.
It has become an annual tradition for my sisters, mom and I to find a fun run in warmer climates during January or February. The PF Changs Half Marathon in Phoenix definitely served its purpose for us. We enjoyed sunny 60-70 degree weather with a diverse backdrop of Arizona mountains. Quite a difference from the icy, subzero temperatures we left behind for our MLK long weekend trip!
Overall, the race was well organized from start to finish. A good expo was hosted that was easy to navigate and well organized. The race was also well organized with plenty of water/gatorade/medical stops along the way. The boasted "Rock and Roll" bands along the way were sub par but they were a welcomed burst of energy along the course. Most of the 13.1 miles took place along flat roads with the addition of a gentle, but very noticeable hill, around mile 9.
All in all, my family and I enjoyed the race and would definitely recommend it to any winter runners looking for a sunny getaway race.
