Runners raved about the opportunity to cross international borders (twice!), crossing over the Ambassador Bridge and back through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel (the only underwater mile in America!). The Detroit Free Press Marathon was also praised for great communication with registrants and their active social media presence.

Runners of the Detroit Marathon earn some awesome bling, which is what propelled Detroit into the Top 10 list of Medals and Swag. And it made our Top 10 list in the Experience category thanks to myriad opportunities, including a kids race and a competitive 1-miler, for everyone in the group to get in on the fun.

Dating back to 1978, this race has become the “Goldilocks” of races—a flat Midwest course that still has beautiful fall scenery, and a border crossing worthy of any bucket list.
