If your looking for a flat 5k, it doesn’t get much flatter than this. If you’re looking for a cold 5k, this was the coldest in the history of Troy, NY. It was so cold that despite the several layers I was wearing, my finger tips hurt for about two days after this race and my eye balls were dried out for a few days as well.
This is also the largest turkey trot in the country and the 12th largest road race in the country. That means it’s up there in the realm of great marathons like Boston, NYC and Chicago! You are assigned a starting block based off of past times. Slower runs, it could take you up to 7 minutes to actually cross the starting sensor after the fun goes off.
This is a very popular race that you could easily PR on in better weather conditions.
My advice to race directors are to provide more entertainment before and after this race. Make the award ceremony Inside. And finally, better shirts! This is an expensive race for a 5k and runners want to get there money worth.
Over all though, great race!
