This is an annual race held at Jacksonville Beach, literally ON the beach. For the 50th anniversary, race management created a medal, which they don't give out most years. The field went from 850 finishers last year to more than 2,200 this year.

Despite almost TRIPLING the number of participants, this race was really well run (sorry for the pun...and the rhyme). They didn't order enough medals for the participants, but all entrants received an email about that earlier in the week. At the finish line, you were given a "medal card" and were given the choice of redeeming it right away or waiting about 3 weeks for a new medal order to come in. This was the best solution, since it didn't prevent anyone from getting a medal (eventually).

My ONLY big complaint about this race has nothing to do with management - the parking situation at Jax Beach is a mess. I left my house 2 hours before the race start, and didn't find a place to park till 5:15.

Luckily I was there early enough to get my chip. With all the runners arriving so close to race time, they had to push off the start time by about 15 minutes. PLENTY of port-a-potties and water before the start. Water stops were at every mile and were well staffed with volunteers.

Afterwards, you receive a free taco and chips/salsa from Tijuana Flats. They were both delicious!

I would definitely recommend this race. Since next year isn't an anniversary year, the number of participants probably won't be as high as this year. Just make sure you arrive early enough to park!
