** As of 2018, this race is now called the Mud Hen Half Marathon **

This race is a great "shore" race, especially if you've never been to the Wildwood area. I grew up and still have family in the area, so I didn't have to worry about a hotel room. I will say that parking is a breeze and the convention center parking is super convenient. There is plenty of street parking that time of year as well, and if I remember correctly, all meters are off.

Pick-up at the convention center is smooth and easy. Friendly staff and a small but fun expo area. Shirt and swag is always something festive. The shirt this year was a long-sleeve black tech shirt, and they allowed me to swap sizes once I saw I clearly had picked the wrong one.

The race begins at the Wildwood Convention Center and tours through the streets of residential Wildwood. It does go over a couple of bridges on the causeway, which are the only gradual inclines on the course. It's flat, fast, and offers a lot of scenic views. The only trouble with going over the bridges and running along Ocean Drive is that it can be incredibly windy - I've run it 3 years now and have always had windy days, no matter how beautiful the weather. The course is an out and back with slight detours, so while it offers a lot of scenery most of the course will be repeated heading back in. Parts of the course also go through the Wildwood boardwalk - which definitely adds a lot of bounce to your step and more scenery. I love getting to the boardwalk and heading into the finish - it's the best part!

The chute is full of energy and spectators and they call your name out as your head in. DelMo Sports does an awesome job with this event - I highly recommend it to anyone interested in doing a race in New Jersey, for both seasoned and beginner runners alike.
