The Sasquatch Scramble included 5k, 10k, and half marathon out and back courses through Redwood Regional Park in Oakland. The later start time of 9:15am allowed participants to navigate the winding roads to Redwood Regional Park and find parking (spots were limited but the parking lots were open for a cash fee). The race morning packet pickup was a smooth process and each runner received a Sasquatch Scramble technical tee and water/electrolyte drinks were available.
Runners were treated to wonderful views of the Redwoods and an easy to navigate trail with a few (not too steep) inclines. The course trail was marked with colored ribbons that kept runners on course. This was my first trail race and I would recommend this course to new trail runners as it was easy to navigate and without any tough obstacles. There was a good mix of running levels in addition to a few walkers.
Finishers received an awesome wood medal (photo below) that had a bottle opener on the back and were treated to post-race snacks and beverages. Each runner received a mini beer mug and could sample (I think limited to 5) locally brewed beer.
Overall, this race had a laid-back no-pressure feel and was a great intro to trail racing. The beautiful course kept runners inspired and the post-race beer was a great treat!
