Darcy 's thoughts:

This was my first race and was overall a good experience. The scenery was great and everyone seemed to be having a good time. It was also a good race for families because of its late start, waves didn't take off until 10:10 am.

My only complaint about this race was the parking/ packet pick-up situation. With no packet pick-up available prior to race day all participants had to arrive early to pick up t-shirts and numbers. This created a safety issue since the parking lot was a fair distance from the registration down a narrow dirt road. Most participants (including myself) did not want to wear their t-shirts during the race so everyone ended up walking back and forth between parking lot and registration. Each time sharing the narrow wet road with cars arriving for the event. On one of my trips back and forth I fell on a patch of wet rocks and landed in front of a Jeep (which thankfully saw me and stopped in time).

After that though the race went smoothly. Participants were grouped during race registration into competitive, run, and walking groups. Though since individuals picked the groups themselves and no time requirements to be in a group were given each wave was fairly mixed as far as speed went. As a first time racer this was a great event to start with as the level of participants was varied (any many folks were even costumed!) giving the event a fun relaxed environment.

I would not recommend this event for the truly competitive as some sections are narrow and it's easy to get stuck behind slower moving individuals who block the path. I'm not a fast runner but I got stuck in jams several times, better to lose a couple of minutes than be "that person" who ran over a six year old.

The course scenery was great! It ran past a creek, through a corn maze, pumpkin patch, past apple trees, and on some trails in the woods. The course was well marked and staff was present throughout to work as guides. Water was offered at the half way point.

All participants received a long sleeve t-shirt, medal, pumpkin, and apple cider. After the race runners were free to participate in activities around the farm.

Overall this race was a fun way to spend a Saturday morning and I would recommend this race.
