John 's thoughts:

This is an insanely difficult "European Style" cross country race. Meaning you don't really know what to expect on any given night. It is a trail race, meaning that it is on trails. But nothing is done to maintain the trails. If a tree falls down, they you need to jump over it. If the river is high (yes, there is a river crossing) then you swim it! No frills, no expo, no shirts, no man-made obstacles, just Mother Nature at her best!!!

The weather for the kick off race for the 2014 season was perfect for fast times. There wasn't much mud at all, and the river was only calf deep.

The race starts by going up a huge hill. and then immediately back down, and right back up. Within the first 1/4 mile the field is almost single file already. Then the trails start. Another hill gets thrown in. Then a section through thick woods... It's non-stop intensity.

The most common phrase used to describe this race is that "it's the toughest race you'll ever love!".

Can't wait until next week!
