Shannon Chenoweth's thoughts:

This was my second time that I ran Swamp House Half Marathon. It's still my PR half marathon to this date (well, the writing of this review anyway :) ). This year didn't end with a new PR, but I did finish with a great time.

The race is put on by West Volusia Runners and it's very well supported along the route. The volunteers were great and very enthusiastic. They made me smile more than a couple of times.

Parking was easy once I got through the waiting line (that was the worst part, and really not too bad, the volunteers parking folks were working hard), I parked and wasn't far from the start at all. The port-o-lets were also right there and that was nice.

Once I made a port-o-let stop, I found some of my running friends and we all headed to the starting area. We had a bit of time to chat before the race began. This race is a good size, so I like being able to see a lot of familiar faces there.

The beginning of the race was a push for me, as I wasn't feeling as into it as I wanted to, but within a mile or two, I felt better. It was also nice being able to run with some of my Galloway friends for awhile. We ended up running in a group of about 7 or 8 of us before we kind of split off.

I ran with a fellow runner, Colleen for the rest of the race. We chatted and generally enjoyed the race. It did warm up somewhat by the halfway point, but with the amount of water stations they had in place, it wasn't bad at all. I always felt very supported with water and Gatorade.

The course ends up on a backish road that is gravel that they paved. So, that was a weird surface to run on. We weren't particularly fans of it, but otherwise it was good. We even spotted a rooster on the course! I love seeing animals when I am out running.

I finished with a good time, not a PR, but good. This is a good course for getting a PR as it's flat and fast. I'd recommend it if you are looking for a good half to get a new PR.
