Today I was the back of the pack pacing for the Starved Rock Marathon. It was a beautiful course with plenty of water, beautiful scenery and super crowd support. Because I am doing it as a pacer I got to enjoy the challenging course including one of the hardest hills I have ever encountered at mile 10.

But at mile 12.5 I got picked up. It started raining really bad and they have lightning that hit the ground several times. It was discouraging to quit so early when things were going well but I knew that the race director had made the right decision. They even gave free entries to those who did not finish. I felt that was more than fair.

Sometimes things happen for a reason and sometimes things out of your control happens like weather happens. But honestly I do believe that like the engine that could I should of finished today.

Now I have to get a bit faster for the pacing in September but I guess I am grateful for no more fulls for a while.
