My husband Bill and I drove to Pottsville, PA this morning, about an hour from our house, not knowing whether we were going to do a road race or a trail race. Rock the Wall was originally scheduled to be a trail race with 5k and 10k options, but our area got hit hard by a freak spring snowstorm last week. The race director sent out an email asking the racers what they wanted to do – run the trail race in the snow or switch the event to a road race. I (of course) voted for trails. Trail races in the snow are actually a lot of fun. The snow cushions rocks and roots, making it easier to run. Apparently, the majority of my fellow racers disagreed.
