Ok, I might be a bit jaded by this race but overall it is an odd race.
The expo is pretty standard and it's easy to get you bib number. The stating line is a bit of a mess because of the layout of Seattle center. I recommend getting the VIP porta potty pass from Brooks, it saves you time!
Seattle has two major marathons: Rock N Roll in June and the Seattle Marathon at Thanksgiving. Both courses are very similar, especially for the full course. That being said, 2013-2015 the RnR courses were almost a reversed version of Seattle Marathon. You run toward Seward park through downtown Seattle and Rainier Valley, then run to the I-90 tunnel and then back through downtown and onto the viaduct. Honestly, the first 6-7 miles are a slog. For me they are hilly and borning. The I-90 tunnel is not the greatest, it's hot and very loud, the water stop is what keeps you going. Running down the on-ramp to the viaduct is a bottleneck the tunnel at the end of it is also loud and hot. The views from the viaduct are gorgeous!
The finish line is well organized and there's always plent of water and snacks. My only wish is the medal was a bit nicer. Many of the other RnRs have some sweet ones and Seattle is left out.
Run this race if you want a challenge not a PR. It's a very hard race to PR.
