Kristin Elam's thoughts:

I want to start by saying that this was my first marathon! I've only been running for one year and was crazy to agree to it, but I knew I had to go through with it.

Savannah is a beautiful and magnificent place to be.

The expo is pretty standard. They had many options for clothing and trinkets. I wish it were a little larger.
The day of the race the weather was phenomenal! No rain, and it started chilly. The starting line is about 3 miles from any parking or drop off accessibility, but it's a wonderful warm up. The starting gun went off and it quickly began to warm up as the sun rose. The course is fairly flat which is nice. You run through the wonderful moss covered trees and through neighborhoods lined with old buildings with southern charm. At the half/full split the half marathoners keep going straight while the full marathoners turned down Truman Pkwy. Truman pkwy is the worst part of the run. There is no shade and nowhere to stop off to rest for a minute. After the Truman pkwy you run through the hospital and onto Savannah State College's campus. On the college campus they had the drumline welcome you and the international club posted signs cheering the runners on and congratulating us in many different languages. After the campus you run through more neighborhoods and across the finish line!

Along the way there are multiple bands playing to keep you going. Most were really good. I wish there were more of them towards the back of the course though.

Lastly, the swag! The tshirts are awesome and the medals are top quality! Whether you are the first or one of the last people to cross the finish line (like me) the run staff were welcoming and cheerful the whole time.
