Lisa McNair's thoughts:

The Rock 'n Roll Nashville Half Marathon was my very first half-marathon! I ran it with my adult daughter, and for that reason it will always hold a very special place in my heart.

As with all of the Rock 'n Roll races, the expo was amazing, the swag (t-shirts) was great, and everything was well-organized. I was undertrained for this race, and so was my daughter, but we took it slow and enjoyed the course, and absolutely loved it!

In all honesty, she did not love the hills. But I didn't think they were too bad. But there are hills. This is probably not your PR course, but it was a pretty course, the entertainment was on point, and the scenery was certainly pleasant.

The year we did the race, it was hot. Really hot. It was in the 90's and humidity was also in the 90s. At one point, marathoners who were going to finish over 4 hours were diverted to the shorter half-marathon course due to heat concerns. One of the things I loved about this race is that residents of the neighborhoods we ran through were standing on their front lawns with hoses and were squirting off the runners as we passed by, to help us stay cool.

My only criticism of this race is that the finish area is a little hard to navigate on sore feet. I'd done the 1 mile race on Thursday, so I got the extra bling for doing 2 distances, and it was hard to find the tent with the extra medals so I could collect mine. The beer garden was also confusing because they would not take ID at the entrance but instead required us to go to a booth, get a wristband, etc. I now know this is common practice but for a newer runner, it was a bit confusing.

I would definitely recommend this race to anyone looking to run in Nashville. It's a fun time, a fun course, and has great swag. Plus, it's in Nashville and that alone makes it awesome.
