KERL 's thoughts:

A Relay race certainly has its advantages ranging from group participation to healthy competition amongst your fellow runners. Ragnar offers both but at a cost. With the lack of sleep, tired muscles, uncomfortable accommodations, the race proves to be more about everything else but fun. Have no fear you will get what you expect somewhere along the course and that is worth it.

The organization for this race seemed to have lost its appeal to many over the years when it switched from "MC200" to "Ragnar" takeover. More focus was on rules and higher costs than many of the aspects that became a staple of the race. Paying for volunteers topped the CRAP list of this race for many people being forced with very few options been offered as a relief. You would think for all of what you are subjecting yourself through overnight, that volunteers would be covered with the BIG entry fee......well the answer is NO, NO and NO for Ragnar.

So lets forget about the costs, change in ownership, organization snafu's and focus on the race itself. It offers some of the best camaraderie experiences around for such an event. The race is competitive but anyone would stop to help or in aid of another. All participants follow the rules and if broken, you are likely not to have a snitch amongst the crowd playing unfair to an honest mistake. Good day and night running mileages through trails, empty road, city sidewalk and anything else in between. All in all its great.

The volunteers at the stops are much needed and do their work, how ever tedious, with great care and along with additional aid from runners waiting for a hand-off or just hanging around nearby. The finishing metal as a bottle opener is the sweetest thing you have ever seen and useful for the beers afterwards.

Looking forward to another year of organizing a team to kick some butt.
