The Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Run for 2021 was an in-person live race in Washington Crossing, PA. The 4 mile out and back course was on a flat section of the Delaware Canal Path. There were a few icy patches from previous snow storms, but overall the trail was in great shape. The course a flat and fast and perfect for a PR.

The starting line was socially distanced with everyone wearing masks and standing 6ft apart. The race director had a seeded start by bib number which was based on the runner’s self-report pace. Masks were required until the runner crossed the starting line and had to be worn as you cross the finish line. Age award groups were split into 5 year increments. Due to Covid-19 precautions, no spectators were allowed. The entry limit was capped at 500 and the race sold out :)

Normally the race concludes with every runner eating a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup, hence the name, however due to COVID precautions this year each participate was granted the ingredients to make their own grilled cheese and tomato soup at home.

The race director, Pat McCloskey is a friend of mine. Check out his website and additional races at runBUCKS
