Claire 's thoughts:

I attended University of Michigan as an undergrad and drove up to Ann Arbor from Chicago to run the race this morning.

The expo was in the Hilton Hotel, and had a handful of local vendors, though it was fairly crowded when I went so I just got my bib and long sleeve tech shirt and left. The long sleeve tech shirts were great, and I don't normally do this, (actually I never do this), but I wore my tech shirt on race day and it was perfect for the 40 degree cloudy weather.

The race started at 7:30am (I liked the early starting time so I could drive home at a decent hour). We ran down main street (past the finish line) and then down liberty up past the CCRB and onto the rolling hills of Geddes. From there we ran out past the huron golf course, ducked back through gallup park, and then past the high school over to Fuller shooting out right in front of North Campus. We took Fuller until the hospital then up the hill and down into the Arb for the hardest hill on the course at mile 11, straight up through the Arb on a dirt trail and shooting out by Markley. The course continued back to Main Street, where there was a decent sized crowd cheering people on. Volunteers handed out slices of Dominoes pizza, brownies, bananas, chips, and mylar blankets.

This is the 8th half-marathon I've run, and I was happy that I P.R.-ed today, beating my last P.R. by a solid 4 minutes. It started to rain about a half hour after I finished, so props to the full marathoners for battling it out today.

Overall, this is a good spring course with rolling (but midwestern-hills) and a fairly complete tour of Ann Arbor (minus Kerry Town). My one complaint is that the roads were FILLED with potholes especially up along geddes and by the golf course, so I had to watch my feet, but that should not dissuade you.
