Race Management
This race was a challenge, due to the weather. It was about 34 degrees and mid way through the race it started sleeting. It was a big day for me though, since I got a half marathon PR by 20 minutes!!! So this will always be a race that I remember!
The Course-
The course was and out and back on a bike/running trail. So it was well taken care of and pretty flat, which is great for a PR. There wasn't much for cheering stations, since it was hard for people to get on the course and because it was so bitter cold. They had water stations every 2 miles which was nice, and it was easy to navigate since you never got off the trail. I wasn't a huge fan of the bridges, because they would the older wood style but this is really a me issue, and with the rain they were a little slick on the way back. The starting line is very narrow but they did a pretty good job of getting people through, with some congestion.
Organization-
This was a well organized race that was done by the same great people that put on the Nebraska Marathon. Packet pick- up the day before was easy and at a local running store that is in the middle of town. We received a great "warning" email with what would happen if they had to postpone the race, since there was a chance of bad weather. I made it to the race and finding the starting line was super easy. They also did a great job of sticking it out for us, slower runners, and making sure that we didn't feel like everyone had left when we finished. I was met with a great staff of volunteers at the finishing line and even had this amazing video put on Athlinks for me to download.
Value-
Value is where this race really shines! It was only $35 for the half marathon entry and I received a GREAT shirt and medal. I think this is a great PR half or a training half since it is a great deal. They also had a 5k or 10 mile option!
