Kevin Wilson's thoughts:

This was the second consecutive year I've run the New Jersey Half Marathon. You will see my review from last year's race below.

The course was the same. Was excited to hear the bugle player getting each corral off to start. It's unique and so cool with the start being at Monmouth Racetrack.

One change from last year was parking was free at the Monmouth Race Track for runners and spectators, which was a nicely added benefit. There is plenty of parking and an easy, short walk to the starting area.

The course is mostly flat with only a few inclines including the two bridges you run over. The course brings you through a few towns and the last approximately mile and a half is on the boardwalk with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Marathon and Half Marathon runners run together for the first 11 miles before the half marathon course turns towards the boardwalk for the final mile and a half. There is also a relay option for this race. The day before features a 5K and kids races.

Plenty of aid stations with water and Gatorade throughout the course. They also have an aid station about half way through with Honey Stinger packets.

After you finish, you receive a cool medal, boxed water, Gatorade, bananas, granola bars, pretzels, baked chips, etc. You also get a heatsheet which comes in very handy on boardwalk. They do a really nice job post-race for the runners.

The bag check is quick and easy. The best part though is that they have a changing tent. It's always a little chilly after the races since it's along the ocean, so it feels so much better to get out of your sweaty clothes and into dry ones. I wish more longer races did this.

The post celebration is great. They had a beer tent featuring the Asbury Park Brewery. Each runner received a free beer. There is also live music, tents with services or food available. It's done really nicely.

I am looking forward to this being an annual race.
