Sam 's thoughts:

Nice little 5K put on by The Nashville Striders running club on the morning of the 4th. Exactly what every runner needs to get their run in before they day drink for America!

All runners get a race shirt with registration. Also, Chuy's opens up early and offers all runners a taco bar. On top of the taco bar, you get the typical post run snacks of bananas and energy bars.

One aid station on course, right at the halfway point. Course scenery is nothing special. The course 2 loops around Opry Mills Mall, one along the perimeter road and another smaller loop closer to the mall. Nice thing is it is early in the morning on a holiday so the whole area is quiet. We got lucky with a nice sunrise this year and not a cloud in the sky. That being said, it really started to heat up quickly with no shade on the course.

No expo, just a simple packet pickup. No elevation, one of the few flat places in Nashville. Great setup for a 5K PR. Plenty of parking since the race is held in the parking lot of one of the biggest malls in America, before it opens, on a holiday.

The Striders do a great job with their little local races. We got an email a couple days before and you can also get a lot of information on their website or Facebook group.

If you are in the area and want to get in a fast 5k before the holiday, I would definitely recommend this one. Yes, there are plenty of options in the area but this gets you away from the larger crowds downtown and offers a great opportunity for a 5K.
